Rediscover Church – Do We Really Need to Gather?
Hebrews 10:24-25
Dr. Jeffrey Clark

The Big Idea: Churches assemble as an earthly embassy of Christ’s heavenly kingdom.

Churches Gather and are Gatherings
Centered on God’s Word
Challenges of COVID 19
Embassy of Heaven

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: Reflect on a time when you were unable to gather with the church and had to participate virtually by livestream. What did you miss most?

Digging Deeper:

1) Think of a gathering you attended that made an impression on you.  How did the other people at the gathering influence you? Why would your experience have been different if you had watched the event from home on a screen?

2) Read 1 Corinthians 16:19 and Colossians 4:15. What words in these verses highlight the fact that the church is a people? What words highlight the fact that the church always assembles in a place?

3) Read Hebrews 10:24-25. What does the writer warn people against neglecting? What benefits do we give and receive when we meet together?

4) What are the hidden struggles we experience in the Christian life?  How does the presence of other believers in the church help us to fight out sin, reorient our perspective and overcome our doubts?

5) Read 1 Thessalonians 3:1-3a, 9-10. How would you describe Paul’s feelings toward the Thessalonian church? When Paul became concerned about their spiritual struggles, what did he do? What did he constantly pray for?

Taking it Home: In what ways has gathering with the church forced you to hold loosely to your own preferences, priorities and possessions? How has this sometimes been challenging? How has it been a blessing?

We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.

This weekend is an opportunity to contribute to the Benevolent Fund, which is used for our church family and community members in times of need. If you wish to contribute, you may give your gift on the way out of the service today.

During our Rediscover Church sermon series, we will be displaying the book cover illustration by Crystal Courtney taken from Rediscover Church by Collin Hansen and Jonathan Leeman, Copyright © 2021, Published and used by permission of Crossway.

Our next baptism weekend is on November 12/13. We will provide baptism orientation meetings, with the expectation that someone getting baptized will attend at least one. These meetings will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 4:00 PM, Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 PM or Thursday, October 27 at 5:00 PM. If you are interested, please indicate on our communication card or call the church office and we will provide the needed support and orientation.

Aspen Ridge Worship Arts team has an opportunity for volunteers who are willing to support musical worship on weekends from “behind the scenes.” We are looking for individuals who can help with the overhead-projection of lyrics, scripture and sermon notes for our weekend services. Whether you are tech savvy or not, musically inclined or not, if you enjoy the act of singing to our King Jesus, this could be a great service position for you. Thanks for your consideration! Feel free to reach out to [email protected] to inquire further.

We also had fun activities for children and families, including hayrides – thanks to Ron and Gene! Our spotlight ministry this year was IdRaHaJe. Thanks to all who served, attended and made this such a fantastic community outreach!
