The Big Idea: God works in unexpected ways.
An Unexpected Mother
An Unexpected Situation
An Unexpected Child
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: Do you ever feel like you are unworthy or unusable by God? What makes you feel that way?
1) Mary was nothing special from a worldly or outward perspective, but she clearly was favored by God. Which do you / we spend more time cultivating: the outward look of success, or the inside heart for God?
2) Has God ever put you in a situation that wasn’t favorable? How did you respond to that? Was there anything you learned looking back on that situation?
3) Mary should have been someone who lived and died two thousand years ago, and we never should have heard of, but God used her to bring Jesus into the world and so we still celebrate her story to this day. What are some things we can work towards to leave a lasting impact for God in this world, after our own time on earth has ended?
Taking it Home: Take some time to think about the things in your life that are unexpected; maybe situations or problems or even blessings. How can you use these for God in your life? Is there maybe a different way of looking at them than you have been? Are you ready for the unexpected in the future?
We welcome Kreg Kastelz as our speaker this weekend. Kreg is our Associate Pastor of Student Ministries, and we are thankful for him and his family’s ministry. We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers on tables in the Celebration Center.
REDISCOVER INITIATIVE / COMMITMENTS
During our November 11/12 services, we invited every person who considers Aspen Ridge Church their home to participate in this ministry campaign. If you were unable to connect that weekend, we invite you to access the service at Sermons Archive – Aspen Ridge Church. All are invited to participate in this initiative to support a new church in Indian Hills and to eliminate Aspen Ridge Church mortgage debt. Commitment cards are available in a basket on the Welcome Center table. We are asking you to pray over such commitment, and when ready fill out the commitment card. Bringing these completed cards to worship over the next three weekends will allow us to celebrate God’s generous provision together at the end of the calendar year. Another option is to send a picture of your commitment card to [email protected] or drop it off in the church office.
ARE YOU FEELING A BIT DISCONNECTED?
Check out our website blog “Connect!” for a story of wilderness adventure, the call of Jesus to connect to His Kingdom and an invitation to connect with this local church. Pastor Marcus Mackey and Eric Krajewski want to connect with you and God in a 4-week small group called Aspen Ridge Connect beginning November 20 in our Fellowship Hall at 10:30 AM. Please register on-line under the small group link or on a communication card in your worship folder.
BIRD IS THE WORD
Thank you to all who made our Bird is the Word Thanksgiving Dinner a huge success. Our special thanks to Dave Retterer for faithfully coordinating this event each year.
SONGS FROM THE WEEKEND SERVICES
God Is For Us – City Alight
Go Tell It on the Mountain – Central Live
How Deep The Father’s Love For Us – Austin Stone
Come Thou Long Expected Jesus – Meredith Andrews
CHILDREN & STUDENT MINISTRY
Student and Children’s ministry remain strong at Aspen Ridge Church. Attendance of children and students for weekend services is growing. In fact, Student Ministries is facing space limitations at 10:30 AM as they split into two groups but without a room large enough for High School students. Children’s Ministry has increased the number of weekend workers and staffing is in place. Mid-week interest and attendance is robust. Thank you to so many for faithful service in these vital areas.
REDISCOVER CHURCH CAR HANGERS
Our Rediscover Church team has provided Aspen Ridge Church car hangers as a reminder to pray. Please pick-up one or more and pray for the objectives of this initiative. These include prayerful support of a new church plant in Indian Hills and elimination of our church mortgage. They are available near the nametags and at the Welcome Center.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER
Join us on Wednesday, November 30 from 5:30-6:30 PM for a delicious meal of spaghetti with zoodle option, salad and garlic bread served in our Celebration Center. The cost is $4/person or $12/family. We would love to meet you there!
Giving appears to be as strong (or stronger) than ever at Aspen Ridge Church. According to financial reports for the first two months of the ministry year, 2022 fiscal year giving is outpacing generous 2021 giving levels. Further, the ministry campaign Rediscover Church has yielded $50,000 in advanced commitments from 20 leadership families. Praise God for His generous provision.
DID YOU KNOW?
In the transition from September to October and November, Aspen Ridge Church has been experiencing a 12% increase in weekend attendance. Our average weekend attendance in October and November is 362, with another 106 connecting online. Even so, there is still plenty of room for growth and invitations. Which friend or neighbor could you invite to an upcoming series or event?
