DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: Which of all holidays you celebrate is your favorite? Why? Where does “Thanksgiving” fit in your ranking?

Digging Deeper:

1) One phrase is repeated in each verse of Psalm 136: His steadfast love endures forever. What is “steadfast love” and how has God displayed such?

2) The first three verses have to do with God as God. He is the covenant-keeping God, over all evil spirits and over all earthly powers. In what way does this section suggest that God is Triune?

3) Verses four through nine describe God as Creator of all things.  God did not have to create. Instead, He chose to create the entire universe. What aspects of this universe inspire thanks from you?

4) Verses ten through fifteen remind us God is Redeemer. The Old Testament example is the Exodus. The New Testament example is the cross work and resurrection of Jesus. How do you see both judgment and mercy in both examples?

5) Verses sixteen through twenty-two describe God as Victor. God sustains Israel during her wilderness wanderings and leads her into the promised land. What are some spiritual battles you are facing and how should you fight for freedom?

Taking it Home: Identify and thank God for an attribute that is most notable in this passage. Pray for the “Rediscover Church” ministry campaign and submit a pledge card. Invite a friend to “Bird is the Word,” our Thanksgiving celebration.

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers on tables in the Celebration Center.

REDISCOVER INITIATIVE / COMMITMENTS

During our November 11/12 services, we invited every person who considers Aspen Ridge Church their home to participate in this ministry campaign. If you were unable to connect that weekend, we invite you to access the service at Sermons Archive – Aspen Ridge Church. All are invited to participate in this initiative to support a new church in Indian Hills and to eliminate Aspen Ridge Church mortgage debt. Commitment cards are available in a basket on the Welcome Center table. We are asking you to pray over such commitment, and when ready fill out the commitment card. Bringing these completed cards to worship over the next three weekends will allow us to celebrate God’s generous provision together at the end of the calendar year. Another option is to send a picture of your commitment card to [email protected] or drop it off in the church office.

BIRD IS THE WORD: COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER

This Sunday, November 20 at 6:00 PM, we will host our free, annual community Thanksgiving dinner, Bird is the Word. We welcome our families, friends and neighbors as we celebrate God’s blessings!

ARE YOU FEELING A BIT DISCONNECTED?

Check out our website blog “Connect!” for a story of wilderness adventure, the call of Jesus to connect to His Kingdom and an invitation to connect with this local church. Pastor Marcus Mackey and Eric Krajewski want to connect with you and God in a 4-week small group called Aspen Ridge Connect beginning November 20 in our Fellowship Hall at 10:30 AM. Please register on-line under the small group link or on a communication card in your worship folder.

SONGS FROM THE WEEKEND SERVICES

God Is For Us – City Alight
Come Holy One – Young Oceans
Thank You Jesus for the Blood – Charity Gayle
Magnificent Marvelous Matchless Love – Matt Boswell

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD BOXES

We prayed over our boxes last weekend and sent 314 boxes on their way early on Monday – Praise God! We thank Carol Battersby and Sherry Marcy for their work on this project.

CHILDREN & STUDENT MINISTRY

Student and Children’s ministry remain strong at Aspen Ridge Church. Attendance of children and students for weekend services is growing. In fact, Student Ministries is facing space limitations at 10:30 AM as they split into two groups but without a room large enough for High School students. Children’s Ministry has increased the number of weekend workers and staffing is in place. Mid-week interest and attendance is robust. Thank you to so many for faithful service in these vital areas.

REDISCOVER CHURCH CAR HANGERS

Our Rediscover Church team has provided Aspen Ridge Church car hangers as a reminder to pray. Please pick-up one or more and pray for the objectives of this initiative. These include prayerful support of a new church plant in Indian Hills and elimination of our church mortgage. They are available near the nametags and at the Welcome Center.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER SUSPENDED ON 11/23

Join us on Wednesday, November 30 from 5:30-6:30 PM for a delicious meal of spaghetti with zoodle option, salad and garlic bread served in our Celebration Center. The cost is $4/person or $12/family.

UNEXPECTED CHRISTMAS

Aspen Ridge will begin a series entitled “Unexpected Christmas” the weekend after Thanksgiving. We will look at the unexpected way God intervened in human lives/history that first Christmas. Christmas Eve candlelight services will be held on December 24 at 3:30 and 5:00 PM.

DID YOU KNOW?

In the transition from September to October and November, Aspen Ridge Church has been experiencing a 12% increase in weekend attendance. Our average weekend attendance in October and November is 362, with another 106 connecting online. Even so, there is still plenty of room for growth and invitations. Which friend or neighbor could you invite to an upcoming series or event?
