DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: If you have seen or read Tolkien’s “Return of the King,” who was the king and what was his return like?

Digging Deeper:

1) Instead of expecting unending human progress, achievement and peace, the Book of Revelation establishes a different set of expectations in 6:1 through 19:5. What are these expectations? Why are these important and how do these shift expectations for life in this world today?

2) God’s judgment of evil is praised in Revelation 19:2,3. How does this establish and confirm God as praise-worthy? How does God’s judgment of evil show up in the gospel message: the person and work of Christ?

3) The marriage supper of the Lamb describes the celebration of the union of Christ and His church in Revelation 19:6-10. How is marriage a picture of Christ’s love for the church (Ephesians 5:25-7)? How can you elevate and value the institution of marriage?

4) The Second Coming of the King is full of victory and triumph in Revelation 19:11-21. He will “tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God,” which is a famous line in the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Why is the establishment of Christ’s justice and reign important for God’s purposes on the earth? How about your life?

Taking it Home: Entrust judgment to God. Stop playing “judge and jury” about a perceived slight or offense. Take someone off of your “hook” and put them on God’s “hook.” Understand forgiveness may not be the same as restoring trust in a relationship. Distinguish between consequences and your responsibility to forgive. Agree to live with the consequences of another person’s sin.

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.

If you are interested in baptism, please indicate on our communication card or call the church office and we will provide the needed support and orientation.
