MESSAGE NOTES
Look Up to Final Judgment
Revelation 20:11-15
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
The Big Idea: After the King’s thousand-year reign, he will
execute a final judgment.
A Final Judgment on Satan, 20:7-10.
A Final Judgment for the dead, 20:11-14.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: Have you appeared before a judge in a court of law? What was it like and how did you feel?
Digging Deeper:
1) After the millennium, Satan is released to deceive the nations. This confirms that Satan cannot and will not be reformed; his doom is just. Review Genesis 18:25 and Romans 9:14 on the justice of God. How can you thank and celebrate God for His justice?
2) A description of the battle of Gog and Magog may be found in Ezekiel 38-9, which appears to cohere with Revelation 20:7-10. In sum, an international coalition attacks a restored and prominent Israel. This happens despite a visible rule and reign of Christ for a thousand years. How does this confirm the “fallenness” of human beings?
3) The dead (great and small) are raised to face final judgment at the Great White Throne. God in Christ will render judgment based on what He finds in the books. These include a record of what people have done. What is the outcome of this judgment? Where and when do you see people attempting to earn and deserve a place with God by their works?
4) There is also a book of life, which includes the names of those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. If someone’s name was not found in the book of life, he or she was given over to the lake of fire. Despite wishes or claims to the contrary, hell is real. Discuss.
Taking it Home: In the coming weeks, Aspen Ridge Church will celebrate Palm Sunday and Easter with a series entitled “Shoulder to Shoulder” (travelers on the Road to Emmaus). Begin to pray about who you can invite to this series and make the invitation.
NEWCOMERS RECEPTION
We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.
SHOULDER TO SHOULDER – AN EASTER SERIES
This Palm Sunday and Easter, Aspen Ridge Church will re-tell the encounter on the Road to Emmaus in a series entitled “Should to Shoulder.” On Palm Sunday weekend we will feature a special children’s presentation and review the travelers’ journey. On Easter weekend we will celebrate baptisms and describe how the travelers’ eyes were opened to see the risen Jesus. Our services will include Saturday Night at 5:00 PM and Sunday at 9:00 and 10:30 AM. Bring a friend!
BAPTISM
After celebrating baptisms a few weeks ago, we have received interest in providing an additional baptism service. We will do so on Easter weekend, April 16/17. We will provide baptism orientation meetings, with the expectation that someone getting baptized will attend at least one. These meetings will be March 24 at 5:00 PM and April 2 at 1:00 PM. If you are interested in baptism, please indicate on our communication card or call the church office and we will provide the needed support and orientation.
RELATIONSHIPS UNDER CONSTRUCTION SERMON SERIES
In the weeks following Easter, Aspen Ridge Church will present a series entitled “Relationships Under Construction.” This series will give special attention to building constructive relationships between and among the sexes. It will be a comprehensive look at different types of relationships: husbands and wives, friendships among singles, people in spiritually diverse marriages and people who aspire to marriage (or are engaged). Wise counsel will be found in 1 Corinthians 7.
