 Jesus’ Call Applied

DISCUSSION QUSTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story:  Describe an occasion when you desperately needed a physician. What happened?

Digging Deeper:

1) Jesus extends a call to a tax-collector (Matthew) to be His learner-apprentice. He then attends a meal with Matthew’s friends who are described as sinners and outcasts. Identify in a general way the nature of Jesus’ invitations and associations.

2) Jesus’ call was resisted by the religious leaders of the day. They were concerned that Jesus would become guilty by association, was setting a poor example or was giving approval to sinful conduct.  Discuss.

3) Jesus responded with a statement that even His opponents agreed with. It is drawn from the medical field having to do with a physician and his identification with sick people. Wouldn’t you expect a physician to be with sick people? Wouldn’t you expect a Savior to be with those who need salvation?

Taking it Home: Assess your degree of pride or “unbrokenness” before God. Talk to a friend about how to be increasingly gracious toward those who seem like outsiders to the company of faith.

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.

BABY BOTTLES DUE BACK THIS WEEKEND!

Yearly, during the weeks that separate Mother’s Day from Father’s Day, (May 8 – June 19) Life’s Options, one of our ministry partners, makes baby bottles available for your donations. Just fill the bottles with the pocket change from wherever you drop your coins each day and return the filled bottles to church by Father’s Day, June 19. Your small change makes a big difference!

NEW SUMMER SMALL GROUP

What happens when we worship? Join a new, summer small group, on Wednesdays beginning June 15, from 6:00-7:30 PM at the church that will explore this question with the help of What Happens When We Worship by Jonathan Landry Cruse. We will examine the significance of corporate worship and recognize how God is doing something to us, for us and through us in each element of the service. You are welcome!

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) CELEBRATION

We are celebrating the wonderful week of Vacation Bible School this weekend and praising God for His blessing! We are excited to have the children sing for us at each service, and we will honor and thank our volunteers. We could not do this without you. Everyone is invited to join us after each service with a food truck as we continue to celebrate our VBS families and volunteers.

GOD SIGHTINGS

Aspen Ridge Church is always interesting in hearing about… and celebrating… God-sightings. Have you experienced God in a particular way? Have you had a meaningful spiritual conversation with a friend? Have you had a rewarding opportunity to serve in your neighborhood? Let us know on the church communication card so we can praise God with you.

UPCOMING WEEKENDS

Aspen Ridge Church is pleased to welcome a few of our missionaries in the coming weeks. This weekend of June 18/19 we will introduce Marcus & Kayla Mackey, church planters with Converge Rocky Mountain. The weekend of June 25/26 we will introduce Eric & Cara Coe serving Russia with Cru.
