What Do You Expect?
The Big Idea: Jesus lets His followers know what they should expect if they follow Him.
What should we expect our lives to look like if we are following Jesus?
- Discomfort – Following Jesus means embracing discomfort.
- Urgency – The reality of God’s Kingdom demands that we prioritize the proclamation of the Gospel.
- Focus – A disciple’s focus is to be on Jesus and his desires.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged, or confused you?
My Story: As disciples of Jesus, we are to embrace discomfort, urgently proclaim the gospel and have a single-minded focus on Christ. Which of these are easier for you and which are more challenging?
1) In Mark 10:29 Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.”
How does this passage encourage us to embrace a life that includes discomfort?
2) 2 Timothy 2:4 says, “No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.
What are “civilian pursuits” in a spiritual sense? How are you doing at staying free from them?
3) What would it look like for you to live with an urgency to proclaim the gospel this week?
We welcome Kyle T. – our North African Partner as our speaker this weekend, we are so pleased to have Kyle and his family. We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.
We are excited to welcome Kyle & Melody, our North African Partners, to our services. They will be at a table after each service for an informal, one-on-one Q&A. Come join us for a snack and with a question!
