FACING THE HARDSHIPS OF LIFE
Dr. Chris Van Inwagen
The Big Idea: Difficult times offer us the opportunity to sharpen our spiritual maturity.
Lesson One – Be happy when difficult times come your way. Why? Because the immediate goal of the trial is the _________of your faith,
which produces ___________.
Lesson Two – Hardships can be viewed as a form of ____________ or ____________.
Lesson Three – Perseverance in the midst of a trial will result in _________.
Lesson Four – Can’t make sense of why you are going through a rough period? Ask God for _________ or understanding and He will answer.
Lesson Five – Those who persevere will receive the ____________________, or real living, depth of character.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
1) Please read James 1:1-12. How did you feel about this week’s passage?
2) What did you learn about this passage from the message?
3) What is God stirring up in you to apply to your daily living from this message?
We would like to welcome Chris Van Inwagen as our speaker this weekend. Chris serves as an Elder at Aspen Ridge Church and is a member of our preaching team. We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.
UPDATE FOR PASTOR JEFF CLARK
As of Thursday morning, Pastor Jeff tested positive for COVID 19. Following state protocols, he will not be on campus this weekend. Please pray for a speedy recovery and protection for family members.
This weekend is an opportunity to contribute to the benevolent fund, which is used for our church family and community members in times of need. If you wish to contribute, you may give your gift on the way out of the service today.

Our Food Truck Fellowship normally operating in-between our Sunday morning services on the second Sunday of each month has been a big hit! We are looking for a dependable person wanting to make $25 per hour shoveling the snow off the sidewalks at the church. This will require you to have the walks cleared by 7:30 AM each time we receive snow. Please contact Jack Wealing at [email protected] or 219.863.2760.
“LOOK UP” SERIES BEGINNING JANUARY 8/9
Aspen Ridge Church will begin a new series on the book of Revelation entitled “Look Up.” It is widely agreed that we live in difficult times marked by uncertainty. In addition, we need perspective on our place in history. This series will describe the kingdom we are moving toward and will one day inherit and will explain just what the future will hold. We want to personally invite you and a friend to this new series.
