MESSAGE NOTES

Peace & Safety
Psalm 91
Dr. Jeffrey Clark

The Big Idea: God promises peace and safety in dangerous circumstances.

Question: How does one receive peace and safety in life’s
dangers?

The Promise, v. 1-4.
Expounding the Promise, v. 5-13.
Receiving the Promise, v. 14-16.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: When have you felt anxious in difficult life circumstances?  How did those circumstances turn out and what did you learn?

Digging Deeper:

1) In addition to four names for God in the opening four verses, several metaphors are provided. What are these metaphors and how do they illustrate God’s protective care? Which of these are most meaningful to you and why?

2) The promise that God provides peace and safety in danger is for God’s covenant people. Notice what is needed: first, a personal relationship (my God). Second, a trust relationship. In what way have you made God your own?

3) Verses 5-13 seem to suggest nothing bad will happen to believers.  However, three reasons were proposed to NOT read the passage that way. What were the three reasons? How do these address challenges to faith in our culture today?

4) Verses 14-16 present a solution for the promise. God will be with you in trouble. To what lengths did God go to fulfill this promise in the New Testament? How did He fulfill such?

Taking it Home: Make a faith commitment that applies the gospel dynamics of this passage to a personal relationship with God (my God). Identify five friends/neighbors/co-workers who you can begin praying for and invite them to the three-week series upcoming by Marcus Mackey.

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers on tables in the Celebration Center.

FAMILY SERVICE WEEKEND

This weekend Aspen Ridge Church will host “family services,” meaning children are intentionally included in the adult gatherings in the Celebration Center. Nursery care for ages two and under will remain available. There is an activity sheet and crayons available for children as you enter the Celebration Center.

BENEVOLENT OFFERING

This weekend is an opportunity to contribute to the Benevolent Fund, which is used for our church family and community members in times of need. If you wish to contribute, you may give your gift on the way out of the service today.

END-OF-YEAR-GIVING

As you think about your year-end giving, would you consider a special gift to Aspen Ridge Church for ongoing operational costs? Visit our website to give online. Please make note that all financial contributions must be postmarked no later than Saturday, December 31, 2022, or received in the church office by that same date in order to be credited in 2022 for income tax purposes.

STAFF APPRECIATION

It is customary for us to receive funds as a gift-offering for the Aspen Ridge Staff. We create an opportunity for you to make this tax-deductible gift. If you wish to contribute to the staff-gift, please do so in the normal offering until January 1. Please place “Staff Appreciation” in the memo line of the check or on the outside of an envelope.

CHRIST’S BODY MINISTRIES COLLECTION

We are partnering with Christ’s Body Ministries through Kathy Taraba to help in the collection of new or gently used blankets and men’s coats. These are given out and especially needed in our cold Colorado winters! Please leave donations in the trunk by the Welcome Center in the lobby and thank you for your help.

REDISCOVER CHURCH COMMITMENTS

We invite you to participate in this initiative to support a new church in Indian Hills and to eliminate Aspen Ridge Church mortgage debt. Commitment cards are available at the Welcome Center. We are asking you to pray over such commitment, and when ready fill out the commitment card. You can send a picture of your commitment card to [email protected] or drop it off in the church office.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTIVITIES

All Wednesday activities are on Christmas Break. They will be back on January 11.

DID YOU KNOW?

Evergreen is expected to grow in the next ten years. Our current population is 25,976 and our expected population in 2031 will be 27,400. For which new friend, resident or neighbor can you begin to pray? The number of households with children under age 18 in Evergreen has and will remain relatively stable. However, these households are increasingly likely (by annual growth of 2.2%) to be single parent families. Where may God be calling you to serve a single parent family?
