No Sign Given
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
The Big Idea: No sign will be given to this generation.
Context – miracles all around.
Outsiders – predisposed against Jesus.
Insiders – forgetful of God’s provision.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: Have you ever asked God for a sign? If so, what happened?
1) To what degree do believers seek miraculous signs? How does this compare to those outside the company of faith?
2) The context surrounding Mark 8:12 is filled with the miraculous. Notice Jesus heals a deaf man (7:31ff), Jesus feeds 4,000 (8:1ff), and Jesus heals a blind man (8:22ff). Discuss.
3) What signs give witness to God’s presence in the world today?
4) Jesus presents a definitive sign as “the sign of Jonah” (Matthew 12:38-41). How is the death, burial and resurrection God’s enduring sign that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?
5) Jesus instructed His followers to remember the ways He proved Himself TWICE in the miraculous provision of bread (Mark 8:19,20). How do you remember Jesus’ faithfulness in your life or church?
Taking it Home: Which of the book recommendations made by Pastor Jeff are most needful or will you secure? If you made a faith commitment, tell a friend.
We would love to meet you at our Welcome Center in the lobby and share a gift and available opportunities. Our Pastoral team would also love to meet you and will linger in the front after the services to this end. You may let us know you were here by using a Communication Card found in our worship folder. We receive these in containers placed on tables in the Celebration Center.
This weekend is an opportunity to contribute to the Benevolent Fund, which is used for our church family and community members in times of need. If you wish to contribute, you may give your gift on the way out of the service today.
CHURCHWIDE SERVICE PROJECT!
Let’s be the hands and feet of Jesus for our churchwide service day! We will meet on campus Saturday, August 20 for a quick donut, coffee and prayer at 9:00 AM before heading to downtown Evergreen for a few hours to pick weeds and clean up, along with some other projects. Bring your work gloves and a water bottle. Slife’s downtown Evergreen food truck will be grilling and chilling with burgers, dogs and shaved ice at 50% off for anyone working the service project. Please feel free to contact our Director of Small Groups, Eric Krajewski at [email protected] for more information.
FOOD TRUCK FELLOWSHIP FOR AUGUST
Due to a prior commitment on August 13, our Food Truck Fellowship will only be available on Sunday, August 14 after the morning service. We look forward to meeting you there.
WHO IS THE TOP GUN?
Have you seen a good movie lately? Please check out our new blog post on the Top Gun sequel that came out this summer located at www.aspenridgechurch.org/blog/who-is-the-top-gun/ and let us know your thoughts. If you have a love for movies and this church, would you consider leading a “movie night” small group? Our Small Groups Director, Eric, would love to talk to you more about this opportunity.

MOUNTAIN RESOURCE CENTER’S (MRC) MOBILE FOOD SHARE
MRC’s Mobile Food Share is back at Aspen Ridge Church on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:15 PM. There are many food items available for anyone who needs it, no paperwork required. Help us spread the word and come to shop or share with our community.
Aspen Ridge Church leaders believe God is stirring us toward a church-wide emphasis this fall called “Rediscover Church.” Since the COVID 19 pandemic, it appears God is awakening an increasing number of people to re-consider the value of church for themselves and their families. God has used the turmoil and division of the past few years to interest a new generation in the need for, and the value of, the local Christian Church. We believe this becomes an occasion to listen to God’s Word and apply His directives for connecting with His people. Look for more in the coming weeks about this initiative.
SMALL GROUP OPPORTUNITIES
In the coming weeks Aspen Ridge Church will present and describe various small group opportunities. This will be a great time of the year to connect with a small group. If you have questions or would like to have a preview, please contact Eric, our Small Group Director at the email address listed below.
DID YOU KNOW?
Aspen Ridge Church is on track to celebrate more baptisms than ever this ministry year! We know of 37 faith commitments in the past year and will celebrate, God willing, 40 baptisms. Please prioritize the weekend of August 20/21 as we will celebrate a handful of “in person” baptisms (and a dozen from previous weeks).
