DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

Digging Deeper:

1) You heard that one of the objections to Christianity is that believers are mean-spirited, angry and judgmental. Is this true?
Or at least in part? If so, how can we combat this as a body of Christ? If not, what is contributing to this perception?

2) Remember last week’s message and read Colossians 3:5-11.
Are there sins you need to put to death or spiritual clothing you need to take off? If so, what are they are what is getting in the way of getting rid of your old self?

3) We all have a physical style of clothing. What’s your spiritual style of clothing? Are you wearing the filthy rags of your past like greed, anger and foul language? Or are you wearing the royal wardrobe that God gave you through Jesus, the bright and shiny bling of a king or queen? Or maybe a combo of both? Discuss.

4) Re-read Colossians 3:12-17 in the ESV, NIV and The Message translations. What are some differences in the translations?

5) What piece of spiritual clothing is easiest for you to “put on?” What is the hardest? What are some next steps in your relationship with Christ and putting on His clothing?

MARRIAGE WEEKEND SEMINAR – AUGUST 12/13

You may recall that we took a congregation vote on seven possible marriage speaking topics for our marriage weekend seminar. The two top vote getters were #1: I Think We Are Finally Talking – communication and conflict, and #2: I Understand You – awareness and appreciation of differences with Chris and Jennifer Schultz from Hold Fast Marriage Ministries speaking. Attend one of our weekend services August 12/13 and then plan to join us for one of these seminars opposite the other service, Saturday at 5:00 PM or Sunday at 10:00 AM. Invite a neighbor or married couple you know in the community!

PARENTING SEMINAR – AUGUST 19

Please plan to join us for our Parenting Seminar on Saturday, August 19. This will occur opposite the 5:00 PM Saturday night service, continue with a dinner for all attending (including children) and wrapping up after dinner with a Q&A session. We have several Aspen Ridge couples who will be sharing wisdom about Christian parenting today and will be beneficial for parents of all ages! Please contact the church office to RSVP so that we can plan food.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT DINNER OPPORTUNITY

Would you like to join a thriving ministry? Be a part of one of our Wednesday night cook teams! There’s a need for a team lead, volunteers and a cashier. If you are interested in becoming a part of this important church/community ministry, please reach out to Lil Town at 580.471.1238 or cavemoose@gmail.com.

SEEKER SMALL GROUP

Are you interested in spiritual things but still have some reservations about Christianity? Would you like to learn how to speak about your faith more freely and in conversational ways? In either case, a fall small group entitled “Holy Conversation” may be for you. If you are interested, please indicate on the communication card.

SUMMER READING

Pastor Jeff recommends a book by Jerry Bridges entitled Respectable Sins. This is a book that challenges God’s people to greater degrees of humility and contrition. It shows how there are many and various ways God’s people fall short of His standards, needing His unmerited favor and forgiveness.
