MESSAGE NOTES

The Big Idea: Stephen’s last day follows the way of Jesus Christ.
Stephen’s last day follows Jesus’ suffering (v. 54, 57-8).
Stephen’s last day follows Jesus’ revelation (v. 55-6).
Stephen’s last day follows Jesus’ death (v. 58-60).

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: What is on your bucket list? If you had one final day to live, what would you like that day to look like?

Digging Deeper:

  1. Make note in the passage of the way Stephen suffered. How does this follow the life and ministry of Jesus? What does this suffering tell us about God’s love?
  2. Stephen receives a revelation of the risen Christ. Jesus rose again and is coming back some day. What is the significance of Jesus standing at the right hand of the Father?
  3. What are some parallels between Stephen’s death and Jesus’ death? Jesus’ death accomplished something unique and distinct. What did Jesus’ death accomplish?
  4. Should readers of this Scripture seek martyrdom or suffering? Or, are believers inclined to seek comfort and ease in the Christian Way?

Taking It Home: What does this passage teach us about non-violent resistance to wrong-doing and corruption in high places?
