Acts – Are There Many Ways to God?
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: Is Jesus Christ really the only way to God?
- The Context – Intolerance and Exclusivity, v. 1-3
- The Event – Resurrection in History, v. 3
- The Teaching – Jesus & Apostles, v. 12
- The Difference – Implications & Applications
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: There is an intolerant emphasis upon “tolerance” in our culture today which is dismissive of exclusive truth claims by and about Jesus. Our culture is not always tolerant toward Christianity. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?
- Peter and James, apostles of Jesus Christ, now face resistance and opposition from the religious leaders of the day. They exhibit “intolerance” to this new Christian message. In what way does intolerance of the Christian message continue today?
- There is great boldness in Peter’s message of salvation exclusively in Jesus Christ (v. 12). How does this teaching compare with the teaching of Jesus in John 14:6?
- Despite having a Christian heritage, our culture is resistant to the idea that Jesus is the only way to God…only extremists and fundamentalists would believe such. How do you respond to such resistance?
Taking It Home: David Wells says “Today, the church does not share [the apostle’s] confidence, it does not have their courage, and it is not bold.” When and how can you be bold in the proclamation of your Christian faith?
We want to extend a special welcome to visitors and guests, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Pastor Jeff will meet you at the Welcome Center, where you can also receive a special gift when you turn in a Communication Card.
