Acts – Are There Many Ways to God?
Acts 4:12
Dr. Jeffrey Clark

Question: Is Jesus Christ really the only way to God?

  • The Context – Intolerance and Exclusivity, v. 1-3
  • The Event – Resurrection in History, v. 3
  • The Teaching – Jesus & Apostles, v. 12
  • The Difference – Implications & Applications

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: There is an intolerant emphasis upon “tolerance” in our culture today which is dismissive of exclusive truth claims by and about Jesus. Our culture is not always tolerant toward Christianity. Do you agree or disagree? Why or why not?

Digging Deeper:

  1. Peter and James, apostles of Jesus Christ, now face resistance and opposition from the religious leaders of the day. They exhibit “intolerance” to this new Christian message. In what way does intolerance of the Christian message continue today?
  2. There is great boldness in Peter’s message of salvation exclusively in Jesus Christ (v. 12). How does this teaching compare with the teaching of Jesus in John 14:6?
  3. Despite having a Christian heritage, our culture is resistant to the idea that Jesus is the only way to God…only extremists and fundamentalists would believe such. How do you respond to such resistance?

Taking It Home: David Wells says “Today, the church does not share [the apostle’s] confidence, it does not have their courage, and it is not bold.” When and how can you be bold in the proclamation of your Christian faith?

We want to extend a special welcome to visitors and guests, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Pastor Jeff will meet you at the Welcome Center, where you can also receive a special gift when you turn in a Communication Card.

Please join us in celebrating with the Holehouse and Wright families as they dedicate themselves to raising their children in the knowledge and admonition of the Lord. We pray that our body will walk alongside them and will pray for these families in the coming days and years.

From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, we will be adjusting our service times, with Saturday services remaining the same and Sunday services combining into one 10:00 AM service. We will resume our regular schedule in the fall. Check out Pastor Jeff’s blog post on the church website for more information!

Take the Contagious Christian Challenge by joining one of our small groups. This is a 6-week DVD series that is designed to help you effectively and efficiently share your faith, and we’re excited to hear the stories that come out of this challenge. You can also email Eric Krajewski for more information.

Join us for prayer on Sunday mornings, downstairs in the Fireside Room, from 10:15 – 10:40 AM. This is a special time to pray for our weekend services and the advance of the gospel. There is also a student-led group meeting during this time; please see Pastor Kreg for details.

In the lobby, near the front office, there is a basket full of items that may be shared with those in need around you. Feel free to take a bag or two and share the love of Christ.
