…to the Ends of the Earth
The Source of Faith
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Question: Where may one find the source of genuine faith?
NOT in human genes or genealogy.
NOT in human logic or reasoning.
NOT in human initiative or decision.
The Big Idea: One finds the source of genuine faith in _____________________.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: How do you react to the statistics that report only 14% of those living in Jefferson County have a Christian or Bible-based faith? What do you see in your neighborhood that supports this statistic?
Review the resistance to the Christian way from ethnic Israel (Acts 13:45, 50). How does this illustrate that genes (or genealogy) are NOT the source of faith? Instead of assuming one has faith because of a family background or legacy, one must look for faith elsewhere. Discuss.
The context of Paul’s mission was polytheism, a belief in many gods. Human reasoning often involves different ways to gods. In contrast to this, the nations began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord (13:48), and it was spreading (v. 49). How can you enjoy and make much of God’s Word?
Some may say that the human decision to believe comes first, and then subsequently becomes the object of God’s general knowledge of what would or would not happen. In what ways does this answer not work? How does this relate to the plain teaching of Acts 13:48b?
Taking It Home: God uses means to bring about faith. He gives a command in verse 47, that we should bring salvation to the ends of the earth. How is God using Aspen Ridge to this end? How is God using you with and toward your neighbors? Try inviting a friend to Aspen Hollow on Wednesday, October 31 at 6:00 PM.
We want to extend a special welcome to visitors and guests, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Pastor Jeff will meet you at the Welcome Center, where you can receive a special gift when you turn in a Communication Card.
Please join us in celebrating baptism this weekend with Taylor and Payton Schroeder and Lexi McIver. There will be cake offered in the Lobby for a time of fellowship and encouragement with these individuals.
Aspen Ridge received a 98% favorable vote to extend a call to Lawrence Pridmore as Associate Pastor of Worship Arts. Lawrence and his family have accepted this call and are targeting a starting date in mid-November. We are full of expectancy and faith that God will move in powerful ways through Pastor Lawrence and our church family in the coming months and years! Please keep them in your prayers as they make this transition.
Soup’er Saturdays are back on the first Saturday of each month, following the evening service, beginning on November 3. If you are interested in joining this soup’er fun ministry, reach out to Jodie Cates at [email protected] to be added to the list. We are looking to add to our soup makers, set-up/clean-up crew and bringers of desserts and soup sidekicks.
NEWCOMERS “EAT AND GREET”
If you have recently begun attending Aspen Ridge Church, you are welcome to join us for our Eat and Greet event on Sunday, November 11 at 3:00 PM at Pastor Jeff and Mary’s home, 7183 Pinewood Drive in Evergreen. This is a great time to get to know the staff at the church, as well as others who are new to our church family. Please contact the church office to RSVP.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD – COUNTDOWN TO NOVEMBER 11
Get ready to make an impact in a child’s life! We will be filling boxes with school supplies and toys to send to a child who may never have received a gift. The shoebox will also send the good news of Jesus. Boxes are available in the lobby and must be returned no later than Sunday, November 11.
ASPEN HOLLOW – SIGN UP TODAY!
Mark your calendars for an Aspen Ridge outreach on the night of October 31 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. We will transform our regular Wednesday night gathering into an outdoor event meant to serve our neighbors in the form of decorated vehicles and candy. Opportunities to sign up for trunks are available in the lobby as we reach toward our goal of 40 trunks! Candy donations will also be accepted in the lobby.
