…to the Ends of the Earth – Sent by God
Acts 13:1-3
Todd Ickes

The Big Idea: The Holy Spirit speaks to His church.

The Big Question: Are we listening?

  • How does the Holy Spirit speak to us?

  • Why does the Holy Spirit speak to us?

  • Why do we need to listen?

  • How do we listen?

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

Digging Deeper:

  1. Bringing it home: Have you heard from God lately? What did He say? How did you know it was God speaking? Conversely, does it ever feel like you are having one-way conversations with God?

  2. Read Isaiah 55:1-3 and John 6:63. Discuss the statement: “Your life depends on your ability to hear God.” If it’s true that my life depends on hearing from God, then how am I growing in this regard? Is it a priority to me to hear from God? Do my daily choices support my belief in this area?

  3. People have done many foolish things claiming God told them to do so, but God’s Word, both Logos and Rhema, must always be in agreement. Rhema words must always be interpreted in light of the written and living (Logos) Word. Read Hebrews 4:12. Discuss a time when either you or someone you know thought they heard from God (a Rhema word) but the Logos exposed it as something other.

  4. Read Matthew 4:4. Do you honestly want to hear from God? Many people (Word only) have been told that God does not or will not speak to us anymore. What does the fruit of believing this look like in a person’s life? Others are afraid that if God did speak they would not like what He had to say. Can you relate?

We welcome Todd Ickes as our speaker this weekend. Todd is a member of our church and preaching team. We want to extend a special welcome to visitors and guests, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Todd will meet you at the Welcome Center, where you can receive a special gift when you turn in a Communication Card.

The Worship Arts Search Team announced a candidate for our Pastor of Worship Arts position, and we met Pastor Lawrence Pridmore and his wife, Tiffany, during a candidate weekend last week. If you missed last weekend, there are biographical flyers available at the Welcome Center. Please pray for the Pridmore family, and for Aspen Ridge Church, as we seek God’s will with a member vote during services this weekend.

Soup’er Saturdays are back the first Saturday of each month following the evening service, beginning on November 3. If you are interested in joining this soup’er fun ministry, reach out to Jodie Cates at [email protected] to be added to the sign-up genius. We are looking to add to our soup makers, set-up/clean-up crew and bringers of desserts and soup sidekicks.

Aspen Ridge Church leadership has generated an annual report that was presented at View from the Ridge. This report is an important summary of how God has been leading and working in the life of Aspen Ridge in the past year. It will be available in our media stands.

We are scheduling fall baptisms for the weekend of October 27/28. Orientation meetings would include October 6 and 13 (Saturdays) at 4:00 PM or October 7 and 14 (Sundays) at 8:00 AM. Attendance at only one meeting is needed. Please contact the church office if you are interested.

If you have recently begun attending Aspen Ridge Church, you are welcome to join us for our Newcomers Eat and Greet event at Pastor Jeff and Mary’s home, 7183 Pinewood Drive in Evergreen. This is a great time to get to know the staff at the church, as well as others who are new to our church family. Please contact the church office to RSVP.

Coffee Ministry Team is looking for additional members. This is a low commitment role with huge returns…happy, smiling faces on Saturday nights or Sunday mornings. Please contact Jean Kelly for more information at 303.506.4827 or [email protected]

Mark your calendars for an Aspen Ridge outreach on the night of October 31. We will transform our regular Wednesday night gathering into an outdoors event meant to serve our neighbors in the form of decorated vehicles and candy. Opportunities to sign up for trunks are available in the lobby as we reach toward our goal of 40 trunks! Candy donations will also be accepted in the lobby.

Ladies – become a Treasured Friend. You’ll be assigned a GEMS girl from the after-school club at Marshdale Elementary. Your role is to pray for her and send 4-5 notes of encouragement by mail. We’ll send occasional prompts to remind you. See Michelle Schroeder or email [email protected] for details.
