He Came…To Do His Father’s Will
John 6:38
Dr. Jeffrey Clark

Question: Why do some people believe the Christmas message and others do not?

  • Jesus’ audience
  • Jesus’ gift from the Father
  • Jesus’ commitment to His gift

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: Can you think of an especially meaningful Christmas gift you gave or received? Do you still possess the gift?

Digging Deeper:

  1. This chapter describes people who are seeking (v. 24,26). Jesus is gracious and invitational toward these people (v. 27, 29). However, He is not afraid to explain the problem of unbelief in terms of divine sovereignty and election. Discuss.
  2. This passage is about a gift from Father to Son (v. 37). Just who are included in “all that the Father gives me” and what will they do with reference to Jesus? In what way is “will come to me” the outward proof or validation of God’s choice?
  3. Jesus says, “whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” What does this teaching say about the question as to whether a truly saved person can ever be lost?

Taking it Home: There is a deep assurance available for those who have crossed the line of faith; however, there is no assurance for those who have yet to do so. If you have crossed the line of faith, put John 5:24 to memory. If you have not yet crossed the line of faith, make a faith commitment today.

If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. Pastor Jeff will meet you at the Welcome Center, where you can also receive a special gift when you turn in a Communication Card.

Aspen Ridge Church will host baptism services the weekend of January 13/14. Attending an orientation meeting will be an important part of pouring meaning into this event. In order to accommodate as many as possible, we will host two orientation meetings (you need only attend one) on Saturday night, December 9 at 6:15 PM or Wednesday night, December 6 at 6:30 PM. These orientation meetings will be in Room 204. Please contact the church office with any questions and to reserve a spot in a meeting.

This past week, Pastor Jeff provided an “Aspen Ridge update” that you would have received in the mail. If you did not receive this communication, there are extra copies available at the Welcome Center.

The Bridge provides an orientation to Aspen Ridge Church life. Those who are new to us, who want to discover a small group and who want to find a way to serve are invited. Dinner will be provided, and the session is scheduled on January 7 from 4:00 – 7:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall, with childcare available. Contact the church office to reserve your spot.
