MESSAGE NOTES

Human – Unity
2 Samuel 5:1-5
Dr. Jeffrey Clark

The Big Idea: God unifies His people under His appointed king.

  • God unifies His people, v. 1-3.
  • God unifies His government, v. 4-10.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: In what times and places have you noticed people working together marked by significant levels of unity? How did this unity influence you?

Digging Deeper:

  1. One of the marks of newfound unity came with a covenant between David and national leaders before the Lord (5:3). On what occasions do we make covenants today? Why are some resistant to making such covenants?
  2. Aspen Ridge Church has a covenant for ministry partners in our founding documents. Further, it has a statement of mission, core values and a statement of faith. How familiar are you with these important convictions?
  3. David grew as a leader while in his role as king (2 Samuel 5:10). Similarly, growth in the lives of church leaders is to be noted over time (1 Timothy 4:15). Where and how do you see your leaders growing?
  4. David conquered Jerusalem and chose it as his capital city. This served to unite the nation. What choices can you make that serve to unify God’s people?

Taking it Home: The people became unified, under God, in their support of David and his administration. How can you be supportive of your church leaders? What specific steps can you take this week toward that end?

NEWCOMERS RECEPTION

If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you, and we invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Pastor Jeff will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he will meet you at the Welcome Center.

Q&A TIME BETWEEN SERVICES

Each weekend, there will be a question and answer time from 10:20 – 10:35 AM, between Sunday services, in the Celebration Center. If you have questions about the current message or series, please join us during this time, and Pastor Jeff will be available to field those questions.

NEW OFFICE HOURS

We are experimenting with our main office hours beginning on Monday, October 10, through the end of the year. We will be closed on Mondays each week. Tuesday – Thursday our hours will be 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM and on Fridays we will be open from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM. We appreciate your flexibility and welcome any questions you may have.

UPDATE ON CELEBRATION CENTER SOUND

We have been working hard for the past year to get our new speakers “worn in” and to find a volume that provides energy to our worship through song, yet is also is comfortable to as many people as possible. While we will never achieve perfection, we have been fairly consistent on setting similar levels week to week, levels that are well within safe ranges. We desire to assist those who have expressed concerns, however, so we will be providing disposable ear plugs for anyone who would like to use them. They will be at the back of the
Celebration Center near the kitchen entrance.

BUCKNER CELEBRATION OF LIFE

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Dick Buckner on Monday, October 10, 10:00 AM, at Aspen Ridge Church. Please join us in honoring the Buckner family by providing a side, salad or dessert for the pulled pork meal. Contact Kathy Barksdale at [email protected] or
303.697.0586 to assist with preparations or with any questions.

DV8 MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL EVENT

Students are headed to the Corn Maze on Sunday, October 23. We will leave the church at 1:00 PM and return around 4:00 PM. You can sign up at our weekly student meetings and the cost is $13.
