Words to Build a Life On – To Judge or Not to Judge
Dr. Dave Mathewson
- The Command, v. 1.
- The Reason, v. 2.
- An Illustration, vv. 3-5
- A Balance, v. 6.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
- Why do you think we are so quick to have a judgmental attitude towards other Christians?
- In what ways do we demonstrate a judgmental attitude?
- How do you react to v. 2? What is Jesus saying will happen if we judge?
- When is it appropriate to “judge properly?” What would this look like? What might the benefits be?
WEEKEND MESSAGE FROM DAVE MATHEWSON
This weekend we are privileged to hear from Dave Mathewson. Dave serves our church family as an elder, a teacher in our Gathering small group and a member of our Aspen Ridge preaching team. In our community, Dave is a professor at Denver Seminary. Dave and his wife, Joyce, have been part of our body since 2012, and we welcome him as he speaks today.
If you are visiting, we want to extend a special welcome to you and invite you to an informal reception immediately following our worship service. On Saturday, Dave will be available in the Celebration Center, and on Sunday, he and his wife, Joyce, will meet you at the Welcome Center in the entryway.
We meet on Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall with Dave Mathewson for October and November in an exciting survey of the New Testament. Then in December, it will feature Pastor Jeff in a fun, interesting and, at times, lighthearted look at the Christmas season.
WILLING AND READY TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY?
If you missed the video, or would like to see it again, we have posted it to our website at AspenRidgeChurch.org/video. Thank you for any input you have regarding our parking lot and volunteer challenges, and for helping us find creative ways to connect with and serve our community.
This is a small group that is designed for those who may be relatively new to Aspen Ridge Church. We meet Sundays at 9:00 AM in the fireside room downstairs, with a focus on Aspen Ridge vision, values and beliefs. Feel free to contact the church office for more information.
5-YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN TEAM

Jeff Clark, Dave Bruce, Justin Cates, Eric Krajewski, Raney Kilgore, Kyndall Nixon and Melissa Whaley covet your prayers as they seek to follow God’s direction in planning.
