A Glimpse of Heaven
Revelation 4: 1-8

Context: Revelation is primarily a book about _________________.
Question: Why do we worship God?

  • We worship God because He is the sovereign creator of all. (Chap. 4)
  • We worship God and the Lamb because He is the redeemer of all. (Chap. 5)

Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?

My Story: This week we saw a glimpse of heaven, and heard reasons about why God is worthy of worship. What effect does the description of the heavenly throne room have on you as you read it? Why do you think John described it in such detail?

Digging Deeper:

  1. In Revelation 4:8 & 11, the heavenly creatures bow down and worship. Can you think of specific times when reflecting on who God is moved you to worship? What qualities of God move his creatures to worship?
  2. In Revelation 5:4, John weeps because he could find no one worthy to open the scroll. Do you also long for justice, for this world to be set straight and for all that is wrong to be fixed? When will that take place? How should that make a difference in the way you look at our world today?
  3. An angel (elder) tells John that the Lamb has overcome. But when John looks he sees a Lamb standing as slain. What does this say about the way we witness and face opposition in the world today?

Taking It Home: What do the songs in Revelation 5:9-13 say to us about the heart of worship in the church? What might it say to our “worship wars” over the correct music, volume, style of songs, etc.?
