Thank you for your generous and sacrificial giving to the Aspen Ridge Benevolent Fund. During the month of September we let you know that the Benevolent Fund gifts from October 5th and 6th would support the Converge churches that were impacted by Hurricane Dorian. Because of your generosity we have sent a check for $2,000 to help the Converge Southeast churches. Below is a shortened communication we received through Converge Rocky Mountain.
Ravaging the Bahamas with sustained wind speeds of 185 miles per hour and storm surges reaching as high as 23 feet, Hurricane Dorian’s deadly path of destruction impacted five Converge Southeast churches. The Category 5 hurricane proved to be among the strongest ever recorded in the Atlantic. It caused massive flooding, demolished buildings and downed power lines across the islands. News reports indicate that 45% of homes in Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands were destroyed. Several people are confirmed dead; a great many others are missing.
Like everyone else in the Bahamas, the Converge Southeast churches there are facing a long, agonizing road ahead. Dr. Raoul Armbrister, our Converge director of the Caribbean Initiative has been communicating about the situation in the Caribbean and on the islands of the Bahamas where he lives and can confirm the devastation. You can help them as they recover, rebuild and reach their communities with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
