Dear Friends,

You may know that a few months ago my wife and I were able to purchase a new house in Evergreen. We have had a great time moving in to a house we love!  We have also begun to get to know our new neighbors. We understand this is going to take time, and there is no shortcut to this end. We have begun doing simple things, giving (occasional) gifts to our neighbors and serving when we can (snowblowing, etc). We decided to host a “New Year’s Eve” open house with and among our immediate neighbors. It was a simple affair that involved fruit, vegetables, snacks and refreshments…people could come and go from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. This was a big success, and we feel much more connected to our neighborhood!

We imagine a day when every person in our community experiences the love of God through the people who make up Aspen Ridge Church. This may take many different forms, but a common denominator includes practical demonstrations of God’s love toward our community. We believe it is the way of Jesus to seek the welfare of our community, serving people with God’s love. This will take place largely “off campus” and in neighborhoods throughout Evergreen and Conifer, but it will not exclude “on campus” opportunities. Beginning this week, we have an opportunity to demonstrate God’s love toward our community on Sunday morning.

We have a good problem with our Sunday Morning gathering… we are full! Put yourself in the mind and vantage point of a guest. When a guest walks in during an opening song and sees everyone standing, all the chairs appear full. There is limited availability for people to find a seat, and this is a good problem. Even so, to help our guests experience a practical and loving welcome we want to provide additional seats and an additional choice to gather in corporate worship. It is in that spirit that we will offer a new worship service at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning, beginning this week (January 10).

Here is what will happen…We will hold on to our Saturday evening service at 6:00 PM, as we believe this service provides a valuable alternative to families with competing schedules for Sunday. We will also change the time of our second service from 10:30 AM to 10:45 AM. This change will be to allow our new service to be held at 9:00 AM and will allow for needed parking to become available. This means we will now have regular weekend services on Saturday at 6:00 PM and Sunday at 9:00 & 10:45 AM.

I want to thank a number of our small groups that meet on Sunday mornings. In many cases they have agreed to shift meeting places and times for the sake of this new service and our growing children’s ministry. Further, I invite you toward three ways that you can help realize our vision. First, you can consider being among those who regularly worship on Sunday morning to populate our new service (9:00 AM). Second, you can worship in one hour and serve in another hour (among the three available). Third, you can be vigilant in prayer for the fulfillment of our mission…inviting neighbors to find a home in Christ.

I am looking forward to a great weekend ahead!

Blessings, Pastor Jeff
