Friends, it has now been 5 years since arriving in Evergreen, and I feel like I am still getting to know this unique place.  When it comes to understanding our mountain culture, I feel like I am still closer to the beginning of my journey!

So, let me take a few moments to describe a way we seek to unlock the door to effective outreach in our community. Our purpose statement is “to glorify God by inviting neighbors to find a home in Christ together.” For some years, we have been encouraging our families to use October 31 as an occasion to build relationships in neighborhoods and with neighbors.  However, as we evaluate our mountain culture, we see that many (most?) families with children LEAVE their neighborhoods on that evening to engage in community events. This means that we have an opportunity to build bridges with our community that evening.

In light of this, we will experiment this year with a children’s ministry event entitled “Aspen Hollow.” Aspen Hollow will be a “Trunk or Treat” event on October 31 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. This will provide an opportunity for our families to bring a car with a decorated trunk full of candy or small toys and provide treats to children and families looking for a safe place. We believe this will be an opportunity to build new relationships, make new friends and support the interests and needs of young families.

Won’t you be a part of this important event? Please respond to Maryjean Fowler to get involved, or sign up this weekend to provide a trunk!
