The Height of Faith - Impossible to Restore?
Dr. Jeffrey Clark
Warning: There is a case in which it is impossible to restore certain ones to repentance.
- Those who appear to believe, but then fall away.
- They crucify once again the Son of God.
- They are like worthless property that bears no fruit.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: When you come upon a difficult passage in the Bible, how are you more likely to respond? Are you more inclined to simply trust that it ultimately coheres with other passages, engage in significant research or doubt the veracity of the Bible? Why?
- There are three leading views on this passage. One possibility is that Christians may indeed lose their salvation, another is that this is a hypothetical situation and a third is that this passage is about those who only appear to be genuine Christians. Discuss.
- What does the occasion of this passage teach us about how Christians are to disagree with one another? When we disagree, what should mark our disagreements?
- The Bible does describe persons who at least appear to be Christians but ultimately are not. These include Judas and those interacting with Jesus in Matthew 7:21-3. Discuss.
- This passage describes two types of land (v. 7-8). Jesus describes two different ways. How can one discern which type of person they are, or which path they are on?
Taking it Home: This case is impossible because God has given these people over to their own determined resistance to Jesus Christ and His Spirit. This is meant to be a warning to believers and unbelievers alike, but in what way?

BABY BOTTLES ARE COMING!
Yearly, during the weeks between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, (May 14 - June 18) Life’s Options Pregnancy Center makes baby bottles available for your donations. Just fill the bottles with the pocket change from wherever you drop your coins each day, (dresser, car console,
laundry room, kitchen counter, etc.) and return the filled bottles to church on Father’s Day, June 18. Look for bottles beginning next week. Your small change makes a BIG difference!
