The Height of Faith - Becoming Sure of Better Things

- God will not overlook your work and love for others.
- We desire each of you to have full assurance of hope to the end.
- Be imitators of those who, by faith, inherit the promises.
Quick Review: Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
My Story: Most people of faith do not live with “perfect” assurance of their relationship with God. If this describes you, when are you most inclined to doubt? What leads you toward robust assurance in the Christian way?
- There is “work” in the Christian life, and this is not in question. However, there is a question about the relationship of our work to God’s work. What does Philippians 2:12-13 say about this?
- Another important passage on “work” in the Christian life is Ephesians 2:8-10. There are distinctions made in the passage between works (v. 9) and then good works (v. 10). What is this distinction and why is it important?
- What is the relationship of doubt to faith? On the one hand, having a measure of doubt does not change God’s reality and faithfulness in life. On the other hand, it does reduce assurance and joy. Discuss.
- Most of us can see the way children imitate their parents automatically. However, this passage invites and challenges believers to imitate people of faith. How do we do this and what does this look like?
Taking it Home: Who are you imitating? Who is your apprentice in the Christian way? Present your answers to a trusted group member and use this as an occasion to invest in these sorts of relationships.
